Turks and Americans has a very long relationship starting with the foundation of The Republic of Turkey (Also before the foundation) and the friendship between two countries pushes on slowly but takes strong roots with the understanding of each and every independent issues like culture, politics, social manners, religious idioms etc.
The most important reason of this slowly developing friendship is the strategy and politics of United States of America on the middle east and eastern countries.
People of Middle East can not understand America’s politic trends on their lands and they usually getting these movements as an influencial invasion which threatens their land, culture, family values and resources at the same time their liberty. The strongest fear of loosing freedom and self-control when mixes with the religous ideology, turns out to be a counter-strike against America’s friendly and commercial aproaches and the fear again itself gives birth to the rage and total war. This is because America could not establish a static-good relationship with most of the Middle Eastern Countries like they would not to be troubled by the fear except Turkey and Israel.
Some may think that the religious ideology that Middle Eastern Muslims and the “Cihad” belief would never let a positive developing relationship with USA and conflict would inevitable. On the other hand cultural and commercial respect between two different groups gives birth to safety and confidence and trust may open the mostly locked doors by ease and tenderness.
It seems as if America already missed this chance and doesnt really cares about it after september/eleven attacks.
As if we come to Turkish-American relations things are quite different. Our countries has some serious agreements and workshops on a great deal of issues like education, cultural integration, technology, trade, science, human resources and so many other fields that developing each and every year a little bit more faster.
This might be depending on the historical background of Turkish-American relations started by the foundation of the Republic of Turkey in which sincere friendly efforts played a great role.
Both economic and scientific aids given by America in order to establish a modern-democratic republician understanding for a future alley always taken positive and sincere by the governments of Turkish State and also apreciated by public.
Besides the heritable middle easterner fear, Turks preferred not to fear but try to understand and integrate into huge cultural traffic and try to get benefits of it as much as they could.
As we look in todays Turkey we can see the positive projections of this culturism and how does it effected, wrapped and mixed with the easterner sides of the Turkish culture.
People are listening to American and Western music, youth is watching MTV, people are learning english, fastfood habbits, entertainments, movie industry, education, trade habbits and so much more…
My American friends visited Turkey years ago admitted that they were not expecting these original modernism from an Easterner country but mostly expecting women in scarves, dark, empty and alcohol free places…
But when they met the Medeterrenian hospitality they loved being in here. And all of them are positive about having a uniqe holiday on Turkish shores.
Only thing they complaint is distance.
Though there are many things to come over and we still have a long road to walk together, Turkish and American relations seem like to get better in the nearest future…
I think two countries can beyond only being allies but can be brothers.
